Ukrainian authorities have declared the commencement of large-scale manufacturing for an innovative locally engineered defensive UAV to reinforce its aerial protection systems. Three initial manufacturers have begun production, with an additional eleven preparing to establish assembly lines, the defence ministry announced on Friday.
The drones utilize a domestically developed technology called “Octopus” designed to intercept Iranian-made drones. The system has been tested in actual battle and demonstrated effective “at night, under jamming and at low altitudes,” officials stated. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an ambitious goal of producing as many as 1,000 interceptors daily.
The Ukrainian president described Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine as “deliberate, calculated and brutal” after six people lost their lives and many others injured in a series of night-time strikes throughout Kyiv. Alert systems activated in Kyiv shortly after 12 AM on Friday, with enemy UAVs quickly heard overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.
Zelenskyy stated the nation was targeted by 430 drones and 18 missiles. Those killed were inside their residences in a block of flats on Kyiv’s left bank when it was hit. Dozens of additional structures sustained damage, including the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan said it issued a strong protest to Moscow's diplomatic representative on Friday after the embassy damage. Moscow's Black Sea port of the port city temporarily suspended crude shipments on Friday – representing two percent of global supply – after a strike by Ukrainian forces. Military commanders in Kyiv stated its forces had fired Neptune cruise missiles and used multiple kinds of strike drones in the attack on Novorossiysk “as part of operations to reduce the strategic capabilities of the Russian aggressor.”
Ukrainian forces separately targeted a processing plant in Russia’s Saratov region and an energy depot in the adjacent Engels region overnight.
Russia’s second-largest energy company Lukoil announced this past Friday it is negotiating with interested parties regarding its international holdings following recent sanctions from the UK and the US and failure of an agreement with the Gunvor trading house. “Final arrangements will be announced once conclusive negotiations are completed and required authorizations are secured,” the company stated.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the city of Madrid, Madrid, on Tuesday to confer with lawmakers following his trip to France, Spanish parliamentary officials announced. Zelenskyy will convene with deputies from both chambers of the legislature during his visit, an official announcement confirmed.
