Ex- Cincinnati Bengals and Texas Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Injured in Farm Incident

Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after suffering severe burns in an accident on his ranch near his Texas hometown.

Details of the Tragic Event

According to a family statement, Shipley was using a machine when it caught fire. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was after he suffered major burn injuries over a significant portion of his body. He reached a ranch employee, who transported him to a nearby medical facility. He was then care-flighted to a hospital in Austin, where he is in serious but stable condition.

“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and no infections or other issues on his journey back to health,” wrote his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.

Severity of the Injuries

Reports indicate that Shipley suffered third-degree burns to over one-fifth of his body. Family members have stated that the main danger at this stage is infection and pneumonia.

Recalling Jordan Shipley's Career

Shipley received All-American honors while at Texas in 2009. During his college career, he recorded 248 career catches for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns. He also ran track for the university.

Drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over three seasons. He officially retired in 2014.
