The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and the next chapter already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates about Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.

“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
